During the Civil War, parliamentarians created many committees that oversaw the war efforts. Also, the Parliament created an alliance with Scotland against the Royals. These acts showed everyone that the Parliament did still have power. So much so after they won the English Civil War, the Monarchy system was dismantled. The help of Scotland (and Ireland) contributed to the victory by Parliament.
As time passed after the war, the parliament continue showing power without a monarchy system. Yet it really only took 11 years until the monarchy system was restored.
